Bloody rain!

The great  British summer continues with more rain and bad weather as usual.  It seems like years since it was last sunny and shows no signs of  easing up!

So far this summer I have had two .ca.cancelled outdoor shoots, with a third possible tomorrow.

Still only a month before  I go to see my grandkids.

Dredd times ahead

The buzz from San Diego  comic con around the upcoming Dredd 3D movie seems too  be really positive and great crowd reactions.  The movie has to break $50 million dollar mark in the states to warrent a sequel so fingers crossed  it does!

Another day!

Well it's that time of year again. Tuesday would have been Geds 49th birthday and it was a pretty hard day, thankfully made a lot easier by Laura and my good friends at work. When you spend the majority of your adult life celebrating something with someone and it just suddenly come to an abrupt end, it takes some getting used to and even now twelve years after his death I find it difficult to comprehend that he isnt going to walk in and just say hi as if nothing has happened.

My own birthday is on Tuesday but it's next year that will be the hard one as we would have both turned fifty.

The End

So I finished Mass Effect 3 and to be honest can't see what all the fuss was about! It was a logical ending to an epic saga and not the let down that so many have decried recently.

I'm going to start the whole saga again from the very beginning and attempt to do the things I missed first time around. Still over fifty hours of playing all three games was excellent value for money and such an epic adventure.

About bloody time!

After finishing Mass Effect 2 last week, I
Finally managed to get my copy of Mass Effect 3 back from Danny and I began playing it last night. So far I haven't done much other than the demo and the first two missions (just about to leave The Citadel), but the game is just as epic in scale and the visuals beautifully rendered.

I was looking at some of the cosplay outfits that people have created over the years for the Mass Effect games yesterday and found this image of
Rana McAnear the actress who provided the voice and facial mapping for the Asari Justicar Samara from the second game.

Rana McAnear had a kick starter style campaign online to raise the $5,500 it cost to transform her into her digital persona. I wish I could do something like that related to Cliche lol

Candle at both ends!

To say that this has been a busy week is a bit of an understatement. As well as my regular hours on the desk at work this week I have had two photoshoots in three days, with a third after work this evening.
A shoot near Glasgow yesterday went well but the decision to get off the train at Edinburgh Park and walk with all my gear (including my lights) was in hindsight not a very good one too make.

Still both shoots seemed to go well with the clients happy with the results and I hope that the shoot tonight goes good as I have been looking forward to working with the model for a long time.

So naked women aside, this week I have mostly been playing Mass Effect 2 after blasting my way through the first game last week in around seven hours. This time though I am taking it slow and easy, trying to get as many of the side quests done as I can. The game and the actions I take during play will affect play in the third game.

I was talking with a work colleague on Facebook last night about who should land the lead role of Cmdr Shepard should a movie be made, and very quickly knocked out this poster festering Keanu Reeves as the main character. I think he would actually be an excellent choice for Shepard and I will work on the poster more when I get the chance.

Warhammer 40,000

Today is the twenty fifth birthday of Warhammer 40,000 the gothic space wargame from Games Workshop. 40K as it was quickly dubbed by fans carried on the tradition that it's fantasy sister game Warhammer had begun and pitted the forces of man against the threat of alien races and worse corruption from within.

Humanity faces a threat in every front and only the brave souls of the Adeptus Astarties (eight feet tall space marines genetically modified), the Adeptus Soritas (female warrior nuns wearing power armour) and the billions of Imperial Guard men and women; standing to keep humanity from falling into the abyss.

The game itself has many flaws and is far from perfect, but the gothic sprawling history and mythos has cemented the games place in history as one of the best franchise settings since Star Trek or Star Wars!

The history of the game is a rich tapestry of lies and deceit, woven in with a world were technology is treated magic. The formula that had been so successful for the fantasy game was carried over and soon had a devoted following across the world. Now the game is on the digital platforms and even spawned a movie!

As a dear friend of mine once said while dressed as a space marine 'In the name of the Emperor get me a taxi!'

Happy Birthday Joe

Today marks the thirty fifth anniversary of the first appearance of Judge Dredd in the stalwart British comic book 2000AD. Dredd missed out on being in the first issue, but the character appeared in Prog 2 and has been in ever issue since bar a handful, not bad going for a comic that nobody thought would last a year.

The toughest lawman on the planet soon took over the top billing in the fledgling comic book , usurping the revamped Dan Dare within a few short weeks. Dredd was the ultimate law enforcer and acted as judge, jury and when needed executioner to those who would break the law in the vast metropolis of Mega-City One.

Mega-City One is huge, spanning the entire eastern seaboard side of North America and home to a staggering 400 million citizens all of whom were potential perps ( short for perpetrator ) who could break the myriad of laws of the city.

And there are many laws to break. Comic books are illegal as they are deemed to retard the brain. Sugar possession is treated the same as we treat those who deal heavy drugs now. The future is a bleak world with almost 100% unemployment and those humans who can find work often end up doing tasks far too menial for robots such as being store mannequins.

The streets and public are protected by the judges, a small number if dedicated and highly trained law enforcement officers who are trained from infancy to police the most dangerous city on earth!

Over the years many of the best known names in comics have cut their collective teeth on 2000AD and some of the most famous writers and artists in the industry have written or drawn Dredd and then gone on to bigger things.

Joe was the subject of the much talked about (often for the wrong reasons) Judge Dredd movie in 1995 starring Sylvester Stallone and a whole new movie is due out this year featuring Karl Urban as 'Ol Stoney Face'.

So 35 years of Dredd and I have loved it all. Here is to the next 35!

Sleeping Beauty

I just watched one of the most beautifully shot movies, I have ever seen. Erotic and sensual and above all extremely well acted. Emily Browning is going to be a huge star in a few years time. Ever since I first saw Emily in Ghost Ship, I knew that she was destined for greater things in her career and this was cemented when she landed roles in Limeny Sniket and Toothfairy, though she was totally wooden in Sucker Punch but I really blame Zac Snyder for that one!

Julia Leigh is an awesome writer and given that this is her first stint as a director I see that she is soon going to be ranked alongside Gale Anne Hurd and Kathryn Bigloew

Mass Effect

Well with the third game in this epic roleplaying franchise about to be released, I thought it was high time I went back and actually completed the first game.

I was mega impressed with Mass Effect when it first came out and even went as far as buying a domain for a roleplaying game based in that universe using my OGRE system.

So back the start and it's a very good game and with luck I may finish it before I get the new game. Which of course leaves the second game to start but that's a different story!

Sadness

Was very sad to hear about the death of Davey Jones tonight a real loss to the world of music and entertainment.

I really loved The Monkees as a child growing up and their music was always something that I found fun and catchy and they were really good live.

Finally watched all of season one of The Walking Dead and have to admit that the last two episodes are excellent and

really show the human condition with some awesome acting. Love seeing
Laurie Holden she is such a sexy lady and a great actor and makes me wish that I had stuck with watching the programme from the start.
Andrew Lincoln is excellent too and has come a hell of a long
way since This Life, another Brit done good over the pond!

The first real trailer for the upcoming Avengers movie finally went live today, though it was rumoured that it was going to be March 1st. The trailer looks awesome and even made Film 2012 tonight on the BBC.

This is one of the real big blockbuster movies that I can't wait to see this year and even in 3D I am looking forward to it!

Gamer Bio

I have finally got around to writing the gaming page for my site, and will be uploading it over the weekend. It is funny how so many people I have worked with past in the industry, tend to work with me again and again in one way or another.

I have also including a brief resume of my gaming work, and the page will link to Cliche and Kapow

Mobile

After updating my blog yesterday (twice) for the first time since setting the damn thing up I was thinking that a mobile version would make it easier to update so here goes.

Thanks to my trusty iPhone I can blog on the go I guess and I'm currently writing this crap your reading in our staff canteen before I start my shift for the morning. Ain't technology grand!

Got more work to do on my site when I get home but it's starting to take shape.

Your Move Creep

A very happy 35th Anniversary to that great British bastion 2000AD. Thanks for all the years of excellent stories and memories, cherished as a child and adored as an adult. Here is too the next 35 years!

Beware Dragons be here!

Okay so this is my new site complete with twitter and facebook links though I have no idea who on earth would want to read about what crap I have been upto today.

After working and eating lunch with Laura I came home to find that my pc was having problems and all the work I had done the other night on my new website (www.marcfarrimond.com) was more or less damaged.

So I had to redo everything from scratch using Seriffs WebPlus and it isn't looking bad so far but needs a lot of work doing, and I hate the gallery options, but can get around those I guess with html links.

More coming soon,
Marc
